The Berliners simply cannot be beaten on foreign ice at the moment. In Augsburg there were also points that were earned but also fought for.
The Eisbären celebrated their seventh away win in a row in the DEL. On Thursday evening, the league leaders won 3:2 (2:0, 1:1, 0:1) at the Augsburg Panthers.
With their goals, Eric Mik, Blaine Byron and Marcel Noebels ensured the capital team’s hard-fought success in the first game after the German Cup break.
In front of 5,146 spectators in the Curt Frenzel Stadium, the Berliners had a lot of trouble in the opening minutes against the energetic and determined hosts. But they took advantage of their first good chances: First Mik deflected a long-range shot from Kai Wissmann that was unstoppable for Augsburg goalkeeper Markus Keller, then Byron scored after a solo effort.
Balanced game, strong polar bears
The home team remained dangerous and was able to reduce their deficit in the second third with a goal from Anrei Hakulinen. In what was now a varied encounter, Noebels restored the capital’s two-goal lead.
In the final period, the hosts increased the pressure again and Luke Esposito scored another goal. The Berliners managed to maintain their narrow lead with great effort and thanks to some strong saves from goalie Jake Hildebrand.
