310 chickens get a new home in Roeselare

Last winter, some 112 Roeselare families ordered a total of 310 chickens. The clucking omnivores can meet their new owner from this weekend. In addition to a compost container, chickens are the ideal waste processors. They eat just about everything from green waste to all kinds of table scraps such as bread, potatoes, cheese and small pieces of meat, and they also provide eggs.

Keeping two chickens, for example, saves 100 kg of residual waste or 7 residual waste bags per year. The city provides every new chicken owner with very clear guidelines on how to care for the chickens and tips on what the perfect space for the chickens should look like.
