Scored more goals than 4 teams
This article appeared on Transfermarkt on February 10 at 8:11 p.m. and was updated after Mitrovic’s 31st league goal.
Aleksandar Mitrovic of Fulham FC equaled the league record for most goals in a season in the championship that started in 2004. The Serb scored his 31st league goal in 28 appearances on Matchday 30 at Hull City, putting him level with Ivan Toney. The Brentford forward set the record last season when he scored the 31st goal on the 46th and final day of the season. While Toney snagged the record on the final lap, Mitrovic still has a comfortable 16 laps to become the sole record holder.
Goals & highlights from Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic
With his 31 goals so far, Mitrovic has achieved an unprecedented rate – in no second league from any of the other top 5 countries does a player come close to the value of Mitrovic’s 1.11 stalls per game. Simon Terodde from FC Schalke 04 has scored an average of 0.88 goals per game in the 2nd Bundesliga so far and is in second place behind Mitrovic in this regard. In the top 10, Sven Michel in third place and Guido Burgstaller in fifth place are other current or former players from German second division teams.
“I think Aleksandar Mitrovic has probably scored more goals than half of the teams in the Championship,” said Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola recently, out of necessity, appreciative words for the striker, who faced the reigning English champions in the FA Cup with Fulham.
2x Pukki, 2x Mitrovic: Most championship goals in a season
There are currently four teams that have not scored as often as Mitrovic alone. Mitrovic did not score in the 4-1 defeat of the “Cottagers” from London against City, but he did in the league. Fulham have won six of their last seven games, twice with six and once with seven goals. Mitrovic alone has netted nine goals in six championship games since the start of the year and is 11 goals and 11 points clear in third place with two games down in the standings.
