The final duel between the Berliners and Häflern has a long tradition that is almost boring for the other teams in the league. In recent editions of the championship, the BR Volleys prevailed.
Clear thing in the first and second sentence
In front of 6,892 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, the Berliners around setter Johannes Tille found the game a little worse. After Friedrichshafen was able to pull away with four points, Volleys coach Cedric Enard called the time-out (6:10). The tactical break worked and the Berliners caught up, which in turn forced the guests to take a timeout. The volleys always managed to pose problems for Luciano Vicentin in the acceptance and thus to score. With the 16:15, the reigning champion regained the lead. A successful block by Timothee Carle and two aces by Marek Sotola ended the set in favor of the hosts (25:21).
In the second set, the Berliners kept the opponent at a comfortable distance and were able to win several long rallies. In addition, the Häfler lost their two challenges early on. When the guests fought back, Enard took the time-out directly and called for a stronger service game. His team implemented this and pulled away again to 20:16. The BR Volleys finally earned two set balls and immediately converted the first (25:22).
Comeback of the Häfler
Although VfB Friedrichshafen controlled Marek Sotola well, Mark Lebedew’s team only managed to gain control in the third set. The Berliners shifted their game more from the center to the outside and took back the lead at 20:19. Two service errors by Carle and Mote kept VfB Friedrichshafen in the game. After two missed match points and a 24:24 tie, Enard called the time-out. The visitors woke up properly for the first time of the game, missing two set points to take the third with an ace (30-28).
