This Sunday has been the return of the weekend with more mobility since the beginning of summer in Catalonia. As reported by the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT), as of 9:00 p.m. some 230,000 vehicles had returned to the Barcelona metropolitan area and it was expected to reach 300,000 at 12:00 a.m.
The SCT admits that the capacities of the roads they have been surpassed but stresses that the withholdings have been contained with respect to the same weekend of 2019, when a similar mobility occurred. This high mobility has been registered due to the movement of the weekend itself but also due to the Sunday rides towards beach destinations, both in the north and in the south of the country

To the north, in addition to the usual return of the Costa Brava, there has been considerable movement between the Vallès Oriental and the Occidental and the Maresme. In the south, the return has been the usual of the coastal areas. After 9:00 p.m. this Sunday there were 15 kilometers of roadblocks to the AP-7 in a southerly direction, at the height of La Roca del Vallès; and seven more kilometers in a northerly direction to the stretch between cold and Subirats, in the Penedès.
transit emphasizes that the opening of additional lanes in the north of the AP-7 and in the north of the C-32, it has made it possible to reduce the duration and length of queues. Specifically, and up to 9:00 p.m., at AP-7 the retention factor has been reduced by 18% and the retention peak has been reduced by 46%. In reference to C-32, the factor reduction was 20% and the retention peak was 41%.
