From today, municipalities can once again apply for financial support for the accelerated construction of more affordable homes. The counter for the Housing Building Impulse opens today for the last time until February 12, 2024. €300 million is available for the sixth tranche. Of this, €20 million will be used as a priority for student housing. The results of the sixth tranche will follow before the summer of 2024, when it will be announced which municipalities will receive a contribution.
Minister Hugo de Jonge:
‘Everyone is eagerly looking forward to more affordable housing. A business case for this is sometimes more difficult to calculate and as a government we help with this with the Housing Construction Impulse. This means that more housing construction projects can still start. This will accelerate the delivery of homes in the coming years, especially for starters and middle incomes. The first five tranches together already contribute to the construction of more than 184,000 homes throughout the country. We are not there yet. Government investment in more affordable housing will continue to be desperately needed in the coming years.
More projects are eligible
A minimum project size of 200 homes now applies to each municipality. The minimum required project size is no longer determined by the size of the municipality. This way, more municipalities can participate. Since the 4th tranche of the Housing Development Incentive, it has been made easier for municipalities to submit bundled project applications to meet the minimum project size. Municipalities are now again encouraged to submit a bundled application.
Additional urgency points exist for Woondeal regions that have more ambitions than the current number of agreed homes to be built. In doing so, they make a substantial contribution to increasing the total number of homes from 900,000 to 981,000 up to and including 2030. Municipalities that give a positive interpretation to the closed housing deals in a different way will also receive extra urgency points. Consider, for example, housing construction in a key location or meeting the affordability requirements of the housing deals.
Finally, there will be a resit option after the sixth assessment round if there are sufficient resources. Applications that have just missed the mark can be supplemented within a short period of time by the submitting municipality. This means that the municipality can still claim a contribution.
Wbi helps with financial shortages
There is a major shortage of housing in the Netherlands: 981,000 additional homes must be built by 2030. There is a particularly high demand for affordable housing for starters and middle incomes. With the Wbi, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations/VRO contributes to the realization of projects that are difficult or slow to complete without support due to a financial shortage. The resources can be used for, for example, the remediation of contaminated soil, the relocation of companies and for the accessibility of homes.
