On Friday evening (October 7th, 2022), the two NRW clubs drew 2: 2 (0: 0). At the opening of the 11th matchday of the 3rd Soccer-Liga scored after a somewhat tough first half, Mael Corboz (69th) scored the opening goal for Verl and thus untied the knot. In the meantime, Cologne turned the game around through Robin Meißner (72nd) and André Becker (85th). But Cyrill Akono made sure Verler cheered very late with the equalizer (90 + 3).
SC Verl controls the game early with attack pressing
At the beginning of the game, Viktoria practiced calmly building up the game deep in her own half. That was moderately successful. Because SC Verl was extremely self-confident and attacked the Cologne team very early in the intensive attack pressing. The otherwise offensively oriented Cologne full-backs Simon Handle and Patrick Koronkiewicz were only challenged in defensive work.
However, real chances to score were scarce on both sides. Although the SC had the Viktoria under control, in Cologne the distances in the assignment were not right time and time again, even on the defensive.
Only a short gasp from Viktoria Cologne in half one
But it was half an hour before Verl created the first really dangerous opportunity from the playful superiority. Maximilian Wolfram brought a free kick sharply to the second post. Michel Stöcker, who replaced the injured Luca Stellwagen on the left side of defence, was unable to get the ball on target (32′).
Afterwards, Cologne seemed to be shaken awake, took part more actively in the game and swam free for a while. However, Verl quickly regained control of the game, Cologne remained harmless in the first round.
Viktoria Köln works purely after the system changeover
In return, Viktoria had the best chance of the game to date in the second half. After a corner, Koronkiewicz crossed the ball again from the right into the danger zone. Moritz Fritz jumped into the ball and hit the outside of the post (55′).
Coach Olaf Janßen had already switched to 5-3-2 to offensively take the wind out of SC Verl’s sails and gain more access. After initial uncertainty, the Viktoria actually managed a little more in this system.
Three minutes, two goals: Corboz and Meißner push in
In the middle of this phase, the SCV suddenly cheered. Corboz was the beneficiary of a cross from Akono, Jamil Siebert deflected so that the ball landed perfectly at Corboz. The loser just had to push in.
Undeterred, Viktoria equalized just three minutes later. Meißner got the ball after chaos in the SC sixteen, and then he too had an easy game from close range.
Becker first shocked Verl, Akono then Viktoria
Nevertheless, Cologne could not really keep up this momentum, in the final phase Verl took over the action again. Instead, however, Viktoria turned the game around in the meantime: Marcel Risse’s quick free kick surprised Verl’s defense and Becker scored.
However, Akono let the hosts celebrate very late: Cologne had several chances to clear the ball, but didn’t manage to do it. Tom Baack served Akono, who remained ice cold. It was the last action of the game.
