Led by Dortmund’s Jew Bellingham and captain Harry Kane, England made it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar – where they met world champions France.
The Three Lions beat Senegal 3-0 (2-0) in the round of 16 on Sunday evening at Al-Bait Stadium in Al-Khour. 19-year-old Bellingham scored Jordan Henderson’s opening goal in front of 65,985 spectators (38th minute).
The midfielder from Borussia Dortmund was also instrumental in the 2-0 win. Kane scored his first goal at this World Cup (45+3).
The Senegalese, who reached the knockout stages of a World Cup for the second time, initially balanced the game but did not get back into the game after the Brits double strike just before the break.
Bukayo Saka increased after the break (57th). The world champions from France are now waiting for Gareth Southgate’s English team in the quarter-finals on Saturday (8:00 p.m.).
