2nd League: Tabakovic hat trick for Hertha BSC – Hannover & St. Pauli also win

St. Pauli remains unbeaten

Thanks to triple goalscorer Haris Tabakovic, Hertha BSC has gained breathing room in the bottom of the 2nd Bundesliga table and left the relegation places. The struggling Berliners won 3-0 (2-0) at home against their table neighbors Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday and improved to 15th place. Lower Saxony, on the other hand, slipped to second-to-last place.

Hertha’s new signing Tabakovic first poked the ball over the line (38th minute), then the center forward confidently converted a hand penalty (45th + 2) – and finally the attacker scored from around ten meters (71st) to make the final score. Two more supposed goals from the Swiss were disallowed due to offside positions. In front of 43,528 spectators, the home team repeatedly created chances, especially through their fast winger Fabian Reese, and achieved a deserved victory.

Gala performance by Hannover 96 against VfL Osnabrück

Hannover 96 won the Lower Saxony duel with VfL Osnabrück with a gala performance. Coach Stefan Leitl’s team dismantled the bottom of the table 7-0 (2-0) in front of 37,000 spectators on Sunday and improved after goals from Havard Nielsen (21st/45th+1), Cedric Teuchert (63rd/71st. /Foul penalty), Louis Schaub (59th), Derrick Köhn (77th) and Andreas Voglsammer (80th) in fifth place. After a red card for Niklas Wiemann (37th), Osnabrück had to play outnumbered for almost an hour and remains in 18th place with one point.

Five goals in their first home win: St. Pauli wins against Kiel

Two early dream goals paved the way for FC St. Pauli to their first home win and prevented Holstein Kiel from jumping to the top of the table. After four draws in a row, Hamburg beat their northern rivals from the Fjord 5-1 (3-0) on Sunday.

Connor Metcalfe (4th) with a shot from more than 25 meters into the corner and Eric Smith (7th) with a free kick from around the same distance also into the corner ensured a clear lead early on in front of 29,546 spectators. These were the first home goals for coach Fabian Hürzeler’s team after the previous two games of the season at Millerntor had ended 0-0.
