In front of 29,546 spectators, the hosts dominated the game from the start. The Braunschweigers were well positioned defensively. Hamburg rarely managed to get behind Eintracht’s defensive line in the first half hour. With the first real chance, St. Pauli took the lead through Afolayan. Eight minutes later, goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj prevented the equalizer with a good reaction to a shot from Braunschweig’s Robert Ivanov. After the change, St. Pauli remained superior. Hauke Wahl (65th) hit the crossbar after a corner. After Saad was sent off, St. Pauli successfully defended their narrow lead.

1. FC Nürnberg’s Uzun prevents FCK victory at Funkel’s premiere

Oldie coach Friedhelm Funkel missed a dream comeback with 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In the guest game at 1. FC Nürnberg, which was threatened with cancellation due to fan protests against the DFL investor deal, the Red Devils fought for a valuable point in a 1-1 (1-0) draw. 995 days after Funkel’s last game in football, his players impressed with their commitment and defensive stability. However, the Lauterers remain in relegation place 16, the Franconians are still tenth in the table after their fourth game without a win.

Richmond Tachie let Funkel (70), who saved 1. FC Köln from relegation from the Bundesliga in May 2021, celebrate in the 34th minute. In front of 35,462 spectators, Can Uzun (64th) equalized with his eleventh goal of the season for Nuremberg, who had improved after the change.

Fan protests against the planned entry of an investor into the German Football League also overshadowed this game. “Investors are poisoning our football” was written on a poster in the Nuremberg block. After tennis balls flew out of the Lauter stands, the game could only start seven minutes late. Even before the match got going, there was another delay: fans from the Nuremberg block used banners to gain access to the interior of the stadium. Police officers marched, referee Michael Bacher discussed with security officials. After a 16-minute interruption, things continued.

However, the Nuremberg team were completely out of control and made blunder after blunder. A cross from Kenny Prince Redondo on the left let Ragnar Ache through, and Tachie pushed in to give the visitors the lead. Funkel, in his usual jogging suit on the sidelines, had stabilized the Lauter team, which he had only taken over on Wednesday after parting ways with Dimitrios Grammozis. The Nuremberg team pressed especially after the break, Uzun gave the Franconians the equalizer with a shot from around 20 meters. Keeper Julian Krahl (89th) saved the guests a draw from the completely free Sebastian Andersson.

SV Elversberg puts VfL Osnabrück in their place

SV Elversberg won the promoted duel in the 2nd Bundesliga against VfL Osnabrück and exacerbated the sporting crisis at the bottom of the table. Thanks to goals from Manuel Feil (36th minute), Hugo Vandermersch (38th) and Paul Wanner (45th + 5), the Saarland team easily prevailed on Sunday in front of 9,500 spectators and now have 32 points.

The Osnabrückers (12), for whom Maxwell Gyamfi (52) scored, have to start planning for the 3rd league after their 15th game without a win in a row. The game started a quarter of an hour late after Osnabrück fans loosened the safety net in front of their block so that they could hang a protest poster against an investor’s entry into the German Football League. Around 40 seconds after kick-off, the game had to be interrupted again because tennis balls flew from the visitors’ block onto the lawn.

When things finally got going, there was little happening in front of either goal. After about half an hour the home team turned up the heat and decided the game before the break. All three goals were prepared by the outstanding Jannik Rochelt, who also hit the crossbar with a soulful shot. The guests only woke up after the change. First, Erik Engelhardt was denied by SVE goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof, and a little later Gyamfi scored after Noel Niemann had hit the crossbar. But it wasn’t enough anymore.
