KSC beats Osnabrück

Steven Skrzybski’s beautiful long-range goal had no effect: Holstein Kiel has to worry about taking the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga. At the start of the second half of the season, the promotion candidate suffered a bitter 1:2 (1:1) against relegation candidate Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday evening. Competitors FC St. Pauli can regain first place with a win on Saturday against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. For Eintracht it is an important success in the bottom of the table.
Skrzybski (11th minute) initially delighted the Kiel crowd with his goal from almost 60 meters. However, Fabio Kaufmann (43rd) and Rayan Philippe (57th) really annoyed the weakened hosts. Philippe’s supposed second goal (80th) was canceled due to offside.

After a corner from the guests, Skrzybski grabbed the ball and tried his luck from a long distance. Braunschweig’s goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann was completely surprised by Skrzybski’s unconventional idea and could not prevent the home team’s dream start. However, Eintracht got into the game better and better and deserved to win overall. Also because Hoffmann secured the three-point win twice in stoppage time.
2nd league: Karlsruher SC defeats VfL Osnabrück
Karlsruher SC achieved an important victory in the fight to stay in the 2nd league. Despite a disappointing performance, the Baden team won 2-1 (1-1) against bottom team VfL Osnabrück. Thanks to goals from Christoph Kobald (4th) and Marvin Wanitzek (55th), KSC, who had to do without midfielder Lars Stindl due to calf problems, initially increased the gap to the relegation zone to seven points. Dave Gnasse (24th) had equalized at the start of the second half of the season for the guests, who were only nine points behind at the bottom of the table.
The hosts, who have now been unbeaten for six games, played with mourning due to the death of Hertha President Kay Bernstein, the fans of KSC and Hertha BSC have a long-standing fan friendship. There was also a minute’s silence before kick-off.
Without Stindl, Karlsruhe started quickly and took the lead through Kobald’s shot from close range, but quickly lost the thread and largely left the game to Osnabrück until the break. The result: After a mistake in Karlsruhe’s defense, Gnaase hit the corner from 25 meters.
In the entertaining second half, the Karlsruhe team fought their way back into the game, but without convincing. Wanitzek scored from close range after strong preparatory work from Igor Matanovic for a somewhat fortunate victory over the now weaker VfL.
