2nd league: Kownacki’s miracle cure brings Fortuna victory against Braunschweig

12 days after muscle fiber tear

Fortuna Düsseldorf celebrated a mandatory victory against Eintracht Braunschweig thanks to a miraculous healing of goalscorer Dawid Kownacki. On Friday evening, coach Daniel Thioune’s team won 3-1 (2-0) against the relegation candidates. Kownacki after just over 40 seconds, Christoph Klarer (25th) and substitute Jona Niemiec (85th) scored the goals for the Rhinelanders with his first professional goal. Rouwen Hennings (18th) also failed with a miserable penalty kick on Braunschweig keeper Jasmin Fejzic.

After the change, the guests came up again after a controversial own goal by Düsseldorf keeper Florian Kastenmeier (62nd). Kastenmeier caught a corner from Robin Krausse’s guests and, according to referee Sven Waschitzki-Günther, is said to have turned behind the goal line with the ball in his arms as he fell. In any case, after studying the video images, Waschitzki-Günther decided that the full extent of the ball should have been behind the line. Eintracht got courage again, but was too harmless overall and conceded the decisive third goal after a counterattack.

Match winner for Fortuna was Kownacki, who tore a muscle fiber twelve days ago and was surprisingly in the starting XI after just one training session on Thursday. After his ninth goal of the season, the Pole also got the penalty and the free kick that led to the second Düsseldorf goal. With 35 points, the Fortune jumped to fifth place, at least for one night. After the third defeat in a row this weekend, Braunschweig could even fall back into the relegation zone in the worst case with 21 points.

3rd win in a row: Karlsruher SC distances Jahn Regensburg

With the third win in a row, Karlsruher SC has freed itself further from the relegation zone. The Baden team beat SSV Jahn Regensburg 1-0 (1-0) at home on Friday evening and thus keep the penultimate table at a distance. The advantage of Karlsruhe is eight points. Mikkel Kaufmann scored the winning goal in the 24th minute. The 22-year-old striker scored in his third straight game, underscoring his ascending form.

KSC made a powerful start in front of 18,191 spectators, but initially failed to score against the sleepy guests. Only after a quarter of an hour did Regensburg adjust better. Andreas Albers failed with his header to KSC goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck, who directed the ball to the post of the Karlsruhe goal. Kaufmann did better on the other side. However, the home side continued to be negligent with their chances. However, Jahn was unlucky because Sarpreet Singh’s long-range shot only hit the crossbar (37th minute).

After the change of sides, things got hotter. The Regensburgers pushed for the compensation. This created space for KSC, but none of the counterattacks were consistently played to the end by the offensive players. But even Jahn failed to score despite a few opportunities. With the best chance to make it 1-1, Singh attempted a shot at the goal post again (90′).
