2nd league: Hansa wins in Regensburg, Kiel loses against Düsseldorf

Draw between FCK and FCN

A brace from Hansa Rostock’s Kai Pröger stopped SSV Jahn Regensburg’s upward trend and inflicted the sixth defeat of the season on the Upper Palatinate after two league wins in a row. The Rostock offensive player (7th/26th) initiated the unchallenged 3:0 (2:0). An own goal by Jan Elvedi (64th) gave the clear final score. In the table of the 2nd Bundesliga, the North Germans moved up to one point behind the Regensburg team.

The callousness in front of goal made the difference. Regensburg had more possession at times, but Joshua Mees (16th/44th) failed twice in a one-on-one with Rostock goalkeeper Markus Kolke. The unsatisfactory exploitation of chances was punished by Hansa’s right winger Pröger: His powerful volley to make it 2-0 caused a loud murmur among the 10,380 spectators. After the break, the home side pushed for the goal. Andreas Albers (53rd) only hit the ball on the crossbar. A positional mistake by the always vulnerable Jahn keeper Dejan Stojanovic (65th) brought the decision. Elvedi deflected Svante Ingelsson’s shot and the ball tumbled into the near corner. Stojanovic had speculated on a cross in the middle and oriented himself in the other direction.

Kownacki decides from the point: Fortuna wins in Holstein

Fortuna Dusseldorf got their seventh win of the season and are back in the top places. The Fortunes beat Holstein Kiel 2-1 (1-0) and moved up to fifth place in the table for the time being. For Holstein, now eighth, a four-game unbeaten run ended. Shinta Appelkamp (42′) scored in the first half to give the visitors the lead before Steven Skrzybski (70′) equalized and, with his tenth goal of the current season, confirmed his status as the top scorer in the lower house. Düsseldorf’s Dawid Kownacki (82nd) made the decision in the final phase with a penalty.

Goalless draw between Lautern and Nuremberg – VAR intervenes late

1. FC Kaiserslautern and 1. FC Nuremberg drew 0-0. Due to the large crowd of spectators, the game started about ten minutes late. The 46,895 spectators in the sold-out Fritz-Walter-Stadion then saw a game on an average level, in which both teams were primarily concerned with defence. Kaiserslautern created a few chances after the break, but were repeatedly denied by the strong Nuremberg goalkeeper Christian Mathenia, who made several saves. An alleged hand penalty by the Palatinate was withdrawn in the 80th minute with the help of video evidence because a Lauterer played the ball with his hand.

Both traditional clubs are currently in the middle of the table. Promoted Lautern has 20 points and thus a sufficient cushion down. Nuremberg has 15 points and is only two points ahead of relegation place 16.
