366 appearances in the 1st and 2nd leagues
Uwe Stöver, sporting director of Holstein Kiel, announced negotiations with the professionals whose contracts expire at the end of the season in an interview with Transfermarkt last week. Less than seven days later, the first personnel was sealed: Fin Bartels (35) is another year at KSV and signed a working paper on Wednesday that is valid until June 2023.
“Fin Bartels is an important pillar of our team,” said Stöver. “With his immense experience from over 450 professional appearances as well as his footballing quality and routine, he has played his part in our successful path over the past year and a half. So we are very happy to be able to keep him with us beyond the summer.”
Bartels moved from SV Werder Bremen to the Förde on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 and was one of the top performers right away. After 20 goals in his first year, the right-footed player has four goals and two assists in 23 games this season. “I’ve always said I want to play football for as long as my body allows and I’m having fun. There is no question that both are given here at Holstein. That’s why I’m very happy to be able to play for my home club for another year,” said the attacking player, who has made 366 appearances in the first two German professional leagues so far.
