“Didn’t have to think long”
Dynamo Dresden goes into the rest of the second division season with Guerino Capretti. The 40-year-old succeeds the promotion coach Alexander Schmidt, who was released on Tuesday.
The 53-year-old Schmidt took over the Saxons in April 2021 and led them back to the German lower house. Under his leadership, the SGD scored an average of 1.41 points in 34 games, but the Dresdeners recently went seven games without a win. With 26 points from 24 games, Dynamo is only one point away from the relegation place. A total of eight clubs have changed coaches at least once in the current second division season.
The team was looked after by assistant coach Ferydoon Zandi on an interim basis. Successor Capretti was the coach of SC Verl for almost five years until mid-February, which he led to the 3rd division for the first time in 2020. Capretti had previously announced his departure for the coming summer.

Dynamo coach Capretti: “Convinced that we can achieve relegation”
Dynamo Dresden’s sporting director Ralf Becker said: “First of all, I would like to thank Alexander Schmidt for his performance. Especially the ascent is very connected with his name. But then we felt we needed a change. I’m very, very happy that we were able to agree relatively quickly that we could sign Guerino Capretti. Welcome, Rino.”
Capretti explained: “Today football will be played. I got to know the staff and today we’re training right away. I’m looking forward to the team and the task. I can’t wait to get started. […] I’ve watched a lot of football in the past few weeks, including a lot of Bundesliga 2. I know Dynamo Dresden. I am convinced that we can achieve the goal of staying up. […] We have to start making Ball more flexible and efficient. We need to hurt the opponent in their half more often. We want to play football to score goals and to win.”

The new Dynamo coach also addressed words to his ex-club: “I thank SC Verl that everything went smoothly with the termination agreement. When Ralf Becker called, I didn’t have to think long. It’s a big club, with a huge appeal and great fans that I’m really looking forward to. […] After five successful years at SC Verl, I would of course have wished for a different ending. But then I was back on the road very quickly and I’m ready and full of energy.”
