2nd league: Ducksch and Füllkrug shoot Werder Bremen in first place – Holstein Kiel wins in Aue

Bankruptcies for Rostock and Aue

With the seventh win in a row, Werder Bremen has at least temporarily taken over the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. The first division relegated team won 2-1 (0-0) at Hansa Rostock on Friday evening and thus overtook SV Darmstadt 98 (39) and FC St. Pauli (38) with 41 points. Both clubs are still playing at the weekend.

In front of 10,000 spectators in the Ostseestadion, the Green-Whites had a hard time despite their field advantage. It was not until the 52nd minute that Marvin Ducksch redeemed Bremen with his twelfth goal of the season. In the 74th minute, Niclas Füllkrug made it 2-0, and Rostock’s goal from HSV loan player Robin Meißner (83rd) came too late.

Holstein Kiel annoys brave Erzgebirge Aue shortly before the final whistle

The descent from the Erzgebirge Aue continues unabated. Against Holstein Kiel, the Saxons remained without a win in the eighth game in a row in the second division. Kwasi Okyere Wriedt sealed the bitter 2:3 (0:2) defeat of the violets on Friday evening with his goal in the 90th minute. Previously, Nikola Trujic (79′) and Jan Hochscheidt (84′) equalized the visitors’ lead by Fin Bartels (19′) and an own goal by Sören Gonther (38′) in front of 4,788 spectators outnumbered.

While Kiel remained undefeated in the sixth game in a row and is safely in the middle of the table, Aue is threatened with falling to last place in the table this weekend if FC Ingolstadt wins against SV Sandhausen. The Aue dilemma culminated within a few seconds. Prince Osei Owusu ran alone to KSV goalkeeper Thomas Dähne – and failed.

In return, Bartels scored to guide the guests. Defense chief Gonther tipped the ball unchallenged to goalkeeper Martin Männel for the next Kiel goal into his own goal. Could it get any worse? It could. Soufiane Messeguem (42′) kicked Phil Neumann in the calf from behind. Referee Florian Heft showed the red card. Outnumbered, nothing seemed to do for Aue. However, Trujic and Hochscheidt managed to turn things around until Wriedt dashed all hopes of winning a point.
