Greuther Fürth maintains its strong streak in Paderborn and remains in the top 3 of the 2nd Bundesliga. Fortuna Düsseldorf, on the other hand, has to let something go after a draw in Berlin, where Hertha BSC missed out on making it into the top third of the table on an emotional afternoon. 1. FC Magdeburg scored big points against Wehen Wiesbaden.

Fürth has improved to fourth place with a 1-0 (1-0 win at SCP. After two draws before the winter break, coach Alexander Zorniger’s team managed another win and has also been undefeated for eight games. Thanks to the goal from Armindo Sieb (33rd minute) on Sunday in front of 10,975 spectators in the Home Deluxe Arena, the relegation place is still within reach, only two points behind Hamburger SV.

In contrast, East Westphalia’s successful streak came to an end with three wins. That cost them the chance to overtake Greuther Fürth. After an initially open exchange of blows with chances on both sides, Sieb gave the enthusiastic guests the lead. After winning the ball, Robert Wagner brought his teammate Sieb into position, who sent the ball into the net with great force. In the second half, Paderborn acted more courageously and pressed the opponent’s goal. However, great opportunities to equalize remained unused. Adriano Grimaldi (78th) failed with a penalty kick against the strong goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

Draw on Hertha’s emotional memorial match day against Fortuna

After a dignified memorial service for its president Kay Bernstein, who died suddenly, Hertha BSC started the second half of the second division with a draw. The Berliners drew 2-2 (2-1) from Fortuna Düsseldorf on Sunday.

The day of the match in the Olympic Stadium was dedicated to honoring Bernstein, who died on Tuesday at the age of 43. His death caused great sympathy across the country. Any form of usual cheerful prelude to the game was dispensed with. A minute’s silence was held before kick-off. Bernstein’s signature blue and white club jacket, megaphone and white roses were placed in Bernstein’s spot in the stands. Previously, around 7,000 people marched silently to the Olympic Stadium in a funeral march.

In front of 42,902 spectators, Haris Tabakovic (30th minute), who held up Berlin’s warm-up shirt with the imprint “We Herthaners in deep sadness” after his goal, and Derry Scherhant (45th + 1) scored for Hertha in the first half . Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson (44th) and Christos Tzolis with a penalty kick (50th) each equalized for the guests. Tzolis put another penalty next to the goal (56th). Hertha has been unbeaten in ten competitive games and is in the upper midfield of the table.

Eleventh joker goal: Magdeburg overtakes Wehen Wiesbaden

Tatsuya Ito shot 1. FC Magdeburg to victory at the start of the second half of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Japanese substitute scored against SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Sunday after 80 minutes to make it 1-0 (0-0) and in front of 22,582 spectators ensured that the Magdeburgers overtook the guests in the table. Wehen Wiesbaden played the final minutes outnumbered after Amar Cadiz was shown a yellow-red card in the 84th minute. Magdeburg is now six points ahead of the relegation relegation place, Wehen Wiesbaden is five.

Despite some personnel problems on the offensive, the hosts played forward with a lot of possession as usual. But once again they revealed weaknesses in their finishing, Wehen Wiesbaden defended solidly and hardly allowed any compelling opportunities. Only Baris Atik (26th) came close to taking the FCM lead in the first section.

It was only after the break that Wehen Wiesbaden became dangerous. After 55 minutes, Franko Kovacevic slipped on the difficult-to-play pitch alone in front of goalkeeper Dominik Reimann. On the other side, Ito had the chance to take the lead after 70 minutes, but carelessly missed it. He did better with the winning goal, which was prepared by Silas Gnaka. It was the eleventh goal of the season by a substitute from Magdeburg.
