Karlsruhe (dpa) – Sports director Oliver Kreuzer from Karlsruher SC fears that corona cases could have an impact on the further course of the second Bundesliga season.
“In the fight for promotion or against relegation that can be a factor,” said the 56-year-old of the German press agency. “Having to do without several players because of positive tests can be a disadvantage. This was shown by Bayern’s defeat against Gladbach. After a series of positive tests at the start of the second half of the Bundesliga season, the Munich team lost 2-1 to Mönchengladbach with a heavily decimated squad.
The Karlsruhe team, whose pros all received a booster vaccination according to Kreuzer, will play their first competitive game of the new year at SV Darmstadt 98 on January 15th. You will almost certainly have to do without Fabio Kaufmann. The offensive man had missed the training camp in Spain because of a positive corona test and will probably only start team training again this Wednesday. “I hope that the pandemic will calm down somewhat by February,” said Kreuzer. “It would also be economically bad if politicians stuck to the ghost games in the long term.”
