2nd league: Arminia Bielefeld crashes Darmstadt 98 – St. Pauli unstoppable

SCP leaves points

Arminia Bielefeld managed a surprise in the first game under new coach Uwe Koschinat: Ostwestfalen, who were in danger of being relegated, managed to beat leaders SV Darmstadt 98 3-1 (0-0) on Saturday “Lilien” lost the lead in the table in the 2nd Bundesliga after the third game without a win in a row. Follower Hamburger SV can pass on Sunday. The visitors’ opening goal scored by Mathias Honsak (54′) was equalized by Manuel Prietl (72′) in front of 18,123 spectators. Benjamin Kanuric (90+1) and Fabian Klos (90+4) even scored for Bielefeld’s home win in added time.

The better players from Darmstadt could hardly find a way through the Bielefeld defensive, which was much more stable under Koschinat. At first, only Honsak caused danger with a hit against the post (23rd) in a game that had been uneventful for a long time. It only got more hectic after the break: Honsak used a long tee shot to give the visitors the lead (54th), which Filip Stojilkovic could have extended a minute later. But Prietl fended off the ball in front of the goal line. From then on, Bielefeld pushed for an equaliser, which Hack (59′) missed with a volley and Klos (66′) with a header in his 408th game for Bielefeld. But after a corner, Prietl hit his head to make it 1-1. Kanuric and Klos made the surprise victory perfect in injury time.

Game turned: St. Pauli wins against Greuther Fürth for the 7th time in a row

FC St. Pauli has continued its winning streak and with the seventh success in a row has broken a club record that was almost 50 years old. But in the 2-1 (1-1) against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Saturday, Hamburg needed the video referee and a red card for Gideon Jung from Fürth (45th) after an emergency brake to get three points.

Ragnar Arche (6th) gave the guests an early lead. Manolis Saliakas (13th) equalized. Oladapo Afolayan (55′) scored the winning goal when the Franks were outnumbered. For Fürth it was the fourth away defeat in a row this year. Before kick-off, the victims of the deadly shots were commemorated on Thursday evening in a Jehovah’s Witnesses building in Hamburg.

The 29,346 spectators in the sold-out Millerntor Stadium saw an entertaining game in the first quarter of an hour. Ache used the hosts’ defensive confusion to score his sixth goal of the season. The striker was there again four minutes later. But after a review by the video referee, it was ruled offside. The Fürth goal that was not given was like a wake-up call for FC St. Pauli. With the first shot on goal, Hamburg scored the first goal after a great combination by Saliakas. Shortly before the break, Fürth weakened itself through Jung’s red card.

Despite being outnumbered, the guests initially didn’t allow much in the second half. It was only a defensive error that made Pauli’s winter signing Afolayan’s debut goal possible. After that, the Hamburgers became increasingly superior. But due to their own inaccuracies, they were unable to extend their lead. In the end, Fürth lacked the means to get at least one more point.

Goalless draw in Magdeburg: SC Paderborn drops points

The SC Paderborn received a damper in the promotion race. At 1. FC Magdeburg, coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team couldn’t get more than 0-0 on Saturday. The FCM climbs to eleventh place in the table, Paderborn remains fourth with 40 points.

Even without their injured top scorers Robert Leipertz and Marvin Pieringer, Paderborn made the better impression in attack. A long-range shot by Julian Justvan (10th) went on target. The FCM was unusually low, Paderborn controlled the game. After 30 minutes, the guests withdrew and waited for a counterattack. FCM didn’t create more than half chances (37th/39th). Shortly before the break, Dominik Reimann (45th) made a strong save against Justvan.

Even after the break, both sides acted with open visors. Jannik Huth deflected an attempt by Baris Atik (51.) into a corner in the away goal. On the other side, Daniel Heber saved from Niclas Nadj, who was ready to shoot (55′). The game had a lot of pace with chances for both sides, but little structure. In the final quarter of an hour, the guests gradually increased the pressure and Magdeburg was only rarely able to free themselves. After a counterattack, Tatsuya Ito (82′) put the ball just over the guest goal, on the other side Justvan missed (84′).
