2nd draw in a row: Bayern can’t win at Union either – Freiburg new leaders

Kovac loses again with VfL

Series champion Bayern Munich suffered another setback in the Bundesliga in the hard-fought top game at Union Berlin and lost the lead in the table. The Munich team couldn’t get past a 1-1 (1-1) draw in Köpenick on Saturday. Sheraldo Becker (12th minute) gave the Irons, who have been unbeaten in twelve league games throughout the season, the lead on Saturday. Joshua Kimmich equalized shortly afterwards in front of 22,012 spectators in the sold-out stadium An der Alten Försterei (15th).

In contrast to the draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach a week ago, Bayern not only failed to convert their chances on the fifth day of the game, but also struggled for long stretches against the tireless team of Urs Fischer. The Köpenicker’s plan mostly worked. They disrupted Munich’s build-up game, but then retreated deep and narrowed the spaces. The record champions could by no means create chances every minute.

Kovac in the criticism: VfL Wolfsburg also loses against 1. FC Köln

VfL Wolfsburg is still waiting for its first win after the fifth Bundesliga game under its new coach Niko Kovac. On Saturday they lost 2:4 (1:3) against 1. FC Köln, the first home defeat of a season that has so far been completely disappointing.

The early opening goal by Lukas Nmecha in the 2nd minute gave Wolfsburg only a short boost. After that, the Cologne team demonstrated exactly that unity, sovereignty and determination that VfL is still looking for in vain after three coaching changes in the past 14 months. Dejan Ljubicic used FC’s first chance to equalize in the 22nd minute. An own goal by Paulo Otávio (32′) and a penalty kick by Florian Kainz (45’+2) turned the game around before the break. In the second half, VfL came back in front of 25,654 spectators thanks to Nmecha’s second goal (79′). However, it was characteristic of the confused performance that only two minutes later Sargis Adamyan (81st) scored again 2:4 against VfL.

SC Freiburg wins against Bayer 04: Top of the table for the second time

Historic league lead for SC Freiburg, flash in the pan instead of a turnaround for Bayer Leverkusen: The 3-2 (0-1) win at the Werkself will see SC finish a match at the top of the league for only the second time in 23 years in the Bundesliga. The first time in 2000, the Badeners were in the lead after the first day of the game, now on the fifth day it was almost as late as ever.

In national player Matthias Ginter (48th minute), Michael Gregoritsch with his third goal of the season (51st) and Ritsu Doan (72nd), after a weak first half, three newcomers turned the game for the team of coach Christian Streich and ensured the third win in the third away game. It was also a successful dress rehearsal for Thursday’s game against Azerbaijan’s Qarabag Agdam, Freiburg’s first group game in the Europa League in nine years.

Bayer, on the other hand, conceded their third defeat in their third home game, their fifth in their sixth competitive game, and are still in crisis at Club Brugge before the Champions League kicks off on Wednesday. After ex-national player Kerem Demirbay’s first competitive goal in exactly eleven months (16th), it initially looked as if Leverkusen could take the next step out of the crisis after the redeeming 3-0 win in Mainz. But in the end not even Patrik Schick’s first goal of the season was of any use (65′). The Czech headed in a cross from Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was only playing four minutes in the Bundesliga.

Terodde with first goal of the season: Schalke 04 gets a point against VfB Stuttgart

FC Schalke 04 have to wait for their first win in the Bundesliga since May 2021. A week after the 1: 6 swatter against Union Berlin, the promoted team still managed to draw 1: 1 (1: 1) at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. Former Stuttgart player Simon Terodde scored his first goal of the season in the 21st minute to equalize for coach Frank Kramer’s team. Before that, Chris Führich (15th) had put VfB, whose coach Pellegrino Matarazzo was only allowed to watch the game from the stands due to a suspension, into the lead in front of 47,500 spectators. In the 67th minute, Stuttgart’s Josha Vagnoman received a yellow card for a foul.

The Swabians also remained without a win in the fifth league game of the season. And next Saturday they have to go to champions FC Bayern Munich. The small derby against VfL Bochum is then on for Schalke.

Werder Bremen to zero: Füllkrug scores twice to win at VfL Bochum

Thanks to two late goals from Niclas Füllkrug, promoted Werder Bremen won at VfL Bochum and plunged the still pointless team of coach Thomas Reis even deeper into the crisis. Bremen defeated VfL 2-0 (0-0) on Saturday. Füllkrug scored in the 86th minute with a header and in injury time with a penalty kick (90+2). After turbulent days with a lot of fuss about Reis, Bochum lost their fifth game of the season in the Bundesliga and remains bottom of the table. After the defeat, Reis continues to come under pressure.

In front of 25,800 spectators in the Ruhr Stadium, Bochum convinced with a fighting spirit, but were too harmless up front and also had bad luck. A supposed goal by VfL striker Philipp Hofmann didn’t count. Another goal by Erhan Masovic was also disallowed.
