Third division team SpVgg Unterhaching was able to dream of a surprise for a long time in the second round of the DFB Cup on Tuesday evening (October 31, 2023) – thanks to Isak Johannesson, Fortuna Düsseldorf turned the spectacular game around and ultimately earned a deserved 6-3 away win after extra time.
After just under an hour, Haching already looked like the sure winner. Patrick Hobsch had given the hosts a seemingly reassuring 2-0 lead with his two goals in the 34th and 55th minutes. But Fortuna, who had recently been outstanding in the second division, came back.
Double strike within a minute
With a double strike within just one minute, Felix Klaus (65th) and Isak Johansson (66th), who was substituted on at the break, equalized. However, Unterhaching was not impressed by this in the long term and took the lead again through Simon Skarlatidis in the 71st minute. But that didn’t last too long either because the strong Johansson scored to make it 3-3 in the 78th minute.
The spectacle continued happily in extra time. Both teams were looking for a decision, but Düsseldorf initially missed the 4-3 through Johannesson in the 98th minute when Raphael Schifferl scratched the shot off the line.
Three Fortuna goals in the final spurt
But Johannesson didn’t let himself be stopped that evening. The Icelander pushed an unsuccessful shot on goal from Dennis Jastrzembski, who had just been substituted, over the line in the 107th minute to make it 4-3, after which Hachinger’s resistance was broken: Christos Tzolis (114th) and Jastrzembski three minutes before the end made it happen very late but still for clear conditions.
