Heated game with a better start for Sandhausen
The hosts started the game wide awake, after a free kick, Dresden keeper Kevin Broll was only able to fend off a header from Dennis Diekmeier, Dumic dusted off to make it 1-0. Around the game, the SVS also announced that “assistant” Diekmeier had extended his contract until 2024. A few minutes after the opening goal, Broll prevented things from getting worse and fished a header from Pascal Testroet (10′) out of the corner.
As a result, Dresden had a little more play, the SVS relied on a stable defense and isolated counterattacks with the lead in the back. Large offensive actions were now rare, but the important game became increasingly heated. After a foul by Chima Okoroji, what is called “pack formation” in the football dictionary arose. Referee Patrick Hanslbauer then gave three yellow cards.
Knipping makes it exciting again
Hanslbauer had barely given the game a go in the second half when the bell rang again behind Broll: Testroet, after losing the ball in the Dynamo build-up game, put it through to Zenga, who scored to make it 2-0 (48′). Dresden coach Guerino Capretti reacted and made three changes after an hour and Dynamo actually became more active and were rewarded with a header from Knipping after a free kick (65th).
As expected, Dresden threw everything forward in the final phase and had a few chances, but didn’t use any of them. In injury time, Zenga and Cebio Soukou missed a counterattack on the other side to make it 3-1 (90+1), but that didn’t matter in the end.
Sandhausen welcomes FC St. Pauli next Saturday (April 16, 2022), Dresden also has a home game – the opponent is Holstein Kiel.
