The Berliners won their away game in Fürth on Sunday (February 11th, 2024) 2-1 (1-0) and thus won their first three-pointer in 2024. Marc-Oliver Kempf scored both goals for the Berliners (34th, 63rd). . Fürth’s Branimir Hrgota equalized in the 56th minute. Florian Niederlechner received a yellow-red card in stoppage time.
With the win, the Berliners prevented themselves from slipping further into the bottom of the table and are now back in eighth place. Greuther Fürth, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to overtake HSV in the table and remains fourth.
Fürth without creativity
The game association, in the person of Armindo Sieb, fired the first warning shot in the fifth minute. Hertha keeper Tjark Ernst had the ball in the follow-up. Fürth had more of the game in the early stages, but without being really creative.
Hertha, who were missing striker Haris Tabakovic with knee problems, only became dangerous for the first time in the 23rd minute – and scored directly. Florian Niederlechner chipped the ball into the far corner after a pass from Marten Winkler over Fürth goalkeeper Jonas Urbig. However, the cheering quickly died down. Referee Marco Fritz looked at a duel again in the review area when the goal was created and quickly decided that Aymen Barkok had fouled Branimir Hrgota and canceled the goal.
First Game interruption after 30 minutes
After almost half an hour, the game had to be briefly interrupted for the first time because Fürth fans threw tennis balls onto the field in protest against the DFL’s investor plans.
However, the game could be resumed after a few minutes and from then on it was more balanced. Hertha now had the ball more often and was allowed to celebrate longer after 34 minutes. Kempf headed a corner from Palko Dardai into the right corner unstoppable for Urbig. Fürth couldn’t find a way and tried again from a distance. Hertha keeper Ernst caught Julian Green’s shot safely (44′).
Hrgota scores with a curling shot
Even after the break, Fürth had little to do in the offensive game. So captain Hrogta took the reins in the 56th minute. The Swede dribbled into the penalty area on the right side and shot the ball into the far corner with his left for a surprising equalizer. The Hertha defense helped a lot, as Hrgota hardly had any resistance even in the penalty area.
But it only took seven minutes before the Berliners were back in the lead. A free kick cross from Jonjoe Kenny found Kempf again, whose header was unfortunately deflected into the goal by Lukas Petkov, who had just been substituted (63′).
Hertha fans ensure Game interruption
Shortly afterwards the game was interrupted again. This time, objects flew onto the grass from the Berlin curve. And it wasn’t just a short interruption either. After two attempts to continue play failed, referee Fritz sent the teams into the dressing rooms. After almost ten minutes the ball started rolling again.
The interruption seemed to have benefited the Fürth team, as the home side were now much more grippy and determined. What was missing was the quality of the finish. Petkov (82nd/89th) and Gideon Jung (88th) missed the best opportunities. Even the eleven-minute added time due to the protests and the yellow-red card for Niederlechner (90th + 10th) did not help the Fürth team.
