A missed penalty by Branimir Hrgota almost cost Greuther Fürth victory in the 270th Frankenderby against 1. FC Nürnberg. But in injury time, Ragnar Ache scored the winning goal on Saturday (04.02.23).
After Florian Hübner fouled Dickson Abiama, referee Tobias Stieler rightly awarded a penalty, but captain Hrgota put the ball on the crossbar (12′). Although the hosts had more shares of the game, it was goalless at the break.
Little game flow
In the second half of the game, club coach Markus Weinzierl brought in two fresh players in Johannes Geis and Enrico Valentini, but there was no flow of play, especially on the Nuremberg side.
After an hour of play, the big excitement in this game happened: Hübner again put down Fürth’s Simon Asta after a big buck in the build-up of the “Clubberer” just before the Nuremberg penalty area. However, referee Stieler decided on a foul and did not show Hübner yellow for the second time. This allowed the guests to continue chasing after the ball and points with eleven men.
Nuremberg cheers – but in vain
Which almost led to Nuremberg’s lead: First, Lino Tempelmann tested Andreas Linde in the Fürth box with a shot from 15 meters, a little later Florian Flick pushed a free kick from the left over the line. But after video evidence, the hit was not given.
In the final phase, the Fürth pressed “clovers” – and were rewarded. Because in added time, Ache, who came on late as a substitute, ran into a cross from Sebastian Griesbeck from the right and shot the ball at close range to Nuremberg keeper Vindahl Jensen. But the goalkeeper could only flick the ball forward, Ache was there and scored the acclaimed winning goal for the hosts.
Fürth climbed to ninth place in the table, Nuremberg in 15th is only two points away from the bottom of the table.
