Fortuna Düsseldorf missed a penalty and conceded two goals against 1. FC Magdeburg in the 2nd Bundesliga – but won in the end.
The 3: 2 (2: 1) on Friday (January 27th, 2023) brought Düsseldorf closer to the promotion zone in the table. Magdeburg, on the other hand, will be at least penultimate at the end of the day, and the current tail light SV Sandhausen could still pass them.
Düsseldorf’s Kownacki misses a penalty and then scores twice
Fortuna got off to a bad start in the game: Dawid Kownacki, who had also been fouled before, shot a penalty kick in the 5th minute to the left of the Magdeburg goal. Almost immediately, Magdeburg took the lead. After losing the ball, the FCM switched quickly. The ball landed in a roundabout way after the rather unclean counterattack at Kwarteng, who scored from 14 meters.

But Düsseldorf also found a quick answer. Kownacki made it 1-1 in the 9th minute when he headed in a corner from the right. Again Kownacki even put Fortuna in the lead, he scored from 13 meters (34th minute), before Magdeburg’s Daniel Heber had lost the ball decisively to Felix Klaus.

Magdeburg equalizes, Düsseldorf’s Appelkamp with the winning goal
The second half held another setback for Düsseldorf: Magdeburg’s Kwarteng also scored twice, in the 59th minute he used a rebound to make it 2-2.
The game was now really spectacular, Magdeburg’s lob had to clear the goal line twice – but Shinta Appelkamp provided the highlight: he scored in the 84th minute with a powerful shot to win Fortuna (84th).
