Hamburger SV prevailed against Eintracht Braunschweig in a wild game at the start of the second half of the Bundesliga season.
The outstanding man in HSV’s 3-1 (2-1) win over Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday was Robert Glatzel. The attacker scored two goals (3rd/49th) in the local Volkspark. Moritz Heyer (17th) and Ludovic Reis (90th) also scored. In the meantime, Lower Saxony shortened the lead with Fabio Kaufmann (30′) and in the closing stages again with Danilo Wiebe (81′).
Hamburg, in second place with 36 points, is just one point behind leaders Darmstadt. Braunschweig closes the game day in relegation rank 16 – in the middle of the fight for relegation.
Hamburg in the lead early on
Hamburg got off to a lightning start on the field: Less than 180 seconds were played when Glatzel converted a cross from Miro Muheim from four meters into the left corner and after fifteen minutes Heyer was completely free and headed in from six meters.
Only after half an hour did the Lower Saxony arrive in the game – and how! Out of the blue, Kaufmann nailed the ball from 21 meters with his right instep into the Hamburg goal. Keita Endo missed a great opportunity to equalize just before the break.
Lots of chances in the closing stages
In the second half of the game it was HSV again who struck first: Glatzel was lucky with his shot from 17 meters that Jasmin Fejzic slipped the ball through the hands of Jasmin Fejzic in the goal in Braunchweig, Hamburg now led again with a two-goal advantage. Daniel Heuer Fernandes saved again against Kaufmann (58′) Glatzel went over the crossbar with a heel (68′).
The final phase was very exciting again: Substitute Wiebe brought the BTSV up to 3:2, only two minutes later Heuer Fernandes thwarted the equalizer in an outstanding way. On the other side, Glatzel miserably missed the preliminary decision to make it 4:2 and hit the ball over the crossbar in front of the empty goal. Fejzic also made a worthwhile save against Laszlo Benes (90′). Reis then countered to make the decision.
