Fortuna Düsseldorf has kept up with the top group in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Daniel Thioune’s team defeated Hansa Rostock deservedly 3-1 (2-0) on Saturday evening (09/10/22) and climbed to fourth place with their fourth win of the season.
Rostock remains twelfth after the third defeat in a row. Dawid Kownacki (10th) gave Fortuna the lead with a dream goal, Marcel Sobottka (27th) followed suit. After Lukas Fröde’s goal (61′), Emmanuel Iyoha (77′) increased again for Düsseldorf.
Honor for Voss-Tecklenburg
Before the game, national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg was honored in the Düsseldorf Arena for her performance at the Women’s European Championship. The 54-year-old, who led the team in second place in England, has been on the Rhinelander’s supervisory board since 2018. The Düsseldorfers rewarded themselves early on in front of 26,719 spectators for a dedicated initial phase. Tim Oberdorf played a dream pass from midfield to Kownacki, who, technically adept, shot the ball directly into the goal – it was his fifth goal this season.
Spurred on by this, Fortuna followed suit and had full control over the game against Rostock who were far too passive. Sobottka deservedly increased after a nice one-two with the extremely conspicuous Kownacki. After the break, the picture did not change at all. Until Rostock sensed his chance out of nowhere through Fröde’s header. But then Joker Iyoha, who had come on for Kownacki six minutes earlier, was there.
Rostock welcomes Magdeburg
On the 9th matchday, FC Hansa Rostock welcomes the promoted team from Magdeburg (Saturday, September 17th, 2022 at 1 p.m.). Düsseldorf takes on Hamburger SV seven and a half hours later.
