Darmstadt 98 missed the return to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. The lilies did not get better than 1:1 (1:0) against Hansa Rostock and remained without a win in the third game in a row. Nevertheless, the Hessians advanced to the relegation place.
After setbacks against Hamburger SV (0:5) and at Hannover 96 (2:2), Darmstadt lost a lead despite being superior in their own stadium. Tobias Kempe (24th) scored when coach Torsten Lieberknecht returned after a corona infection, Danylo Sikan (65th) scored the important equalizer for Hansa. Rostock is still deep in the relegation battle.
Darmstadt needed something to get into the game. The hosts only took control after Kempe capitalized on a mistake by Ryan Malone in the lead. Hansa increased the pressure just before the break, but didn’t have any clear chances to score.
In the second round, too, little changed in the dominance of the Darmstadt team. Sikan’s goal from a corner came out of nowhere. In the final phase, an open game developed.
