In the 2nd Bundesliga, 1. FC Nürnberg won 1-0 (0-0) at 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday (03/09/2024). The match winner for the “Club” was once again Can Uzun. The ball had actually already bounced twice in the Magdeburg goal.
Uzun (80th) scored the decisive goal in the final phase. With their second win in a row and 36 points, Nuremberg moved up to eighth place. Magdeburg (31 points), in twelfth place, doesn’t really get away from the bottom of the table. The relegation place is six points away.
Goals from Uzun and Andersson were not given
Magdeburg had the greater share of the game, especially in the starting phase of the game. However, the guests created the clearer chances – and even scored twice. But both when Uzun scored (25′) and shortly afterwards, when Sebastian Andersson inserted a cross pass from close range (27′), the assistant referee’s flag went up. Offside.
The second 45 minutes went goalless. Here too, the hosts got off to a better start and were now more dangerous. Alexander Nollenberger (50th) failed with a shot from the left half of the penalty area towards the right corner by FCN goalkeeper Carl Klaus. Klaus also made a strong save against a lob from Tatsuya Ito (55th). Magdeburg found itself stuck in the opposing half.
Uzun then arrived there
Almost nothing came from Nuremberg in the second section, but only almost. With the first good action in the second half, the guests took the lead. Nathaniel Brown prevailed in a running duel on the left just before the baseline and put the ball back. At the penalty spot, Lukas Schmelzer let Uzun through, who confidently hit the inside of the ball into the far corner for his 13th goal of the season.
The FCM tried to rally again. But the guests defended their narrow lead passionately until the final whistle.
