The London police do not mention the profession of the detainee in its own statement. “On July 4, the rape of a woman in her twenties was reported to the police. That same day, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape at an address in Barnet (a neighborhood in North London, ed.) and taken into custody where he still remains. The investigation into the circumstances is still ongoing.”
The player is not the first Premier League player to be arrested this year for rape. That happened earlier with Mason Greenwood of Manchester United. He has been suspended by his club until further notice.
