At the time of the earthquake, dozens of wrestlers from different countries were at the Kahramanmaras wrestling hall at the same time. Many were trapped under the rubble.

One of those rescued from the landslide was a top soccer player Christian Atsu. The Ghanaian Hataysport player was found in the ruins and rushed to hospital.
According to Reuters, other football players were also rescued from the ruins at the same time.
The International Olympic Committee has promised to help in the midst of the disaster.
