Originally, all underground stations in Berlin should be barrier-free by 2021. However, this goal was far from achieved. A question in the House of Representatives reveals how large the deficits are.

If you want to use the BVG tram and subway with a wheelchair, you should find out in advance at which stations this is possible.

In response to a written request from AfD MP Rolf Wiedenhaupt, the House of Representatives announced that 28 underground stations still do not have step-free access, including underground stations on the U1, U2, U3, U6, U7, U8 and U9 lines.

Tram lines: Only M4 completely barrier-free

Also in the tram network, only line M4 is completely barrier-free. On the other 21 lines, a total of 232 of 816 stops are not suitable for wheelchair users.

Berlin’s public transport system is not expected to be completely barrier-free until 2032 at the earliest.

“Incomprehensible why a red-green government, for which public transport is the most important means of transport, did not think about accessibility,” says Wiedenhaupt.
