270 people with disabilities affected – politicians let workshop down

For 36 years the company has been a place of work and leisure for people with disabilities. Now their future at the site is on the brink.

Because the area at Askanierring 154/155 is being sold. The building complex is still owned by the Federal Agency for Real Estate (Bima).

When asked by the BZ, she said in official German: “Bima has the legal mandate to sell non-essential assets economically. The property at Askanierring 154/155 is dispensable for federal purposes and is to be sold accordingly.”

The Federal Agency initially offered the property to the State of Berlin for direct acquisition. But the former senate If there were no financial means available at the time.

Mosaic was subsequently interested in the purchase. “We bid 9.6 million euros. But there was a higher bid from another interested party,” says Managing Director Frank Jeromin (61).

Most recently, the new social administration at Bima campaigned to sell the Mosaic Berlin gGmbH site. Without success.

A beautiful “cool world”


It is not yet clear who will buy the complex. A non-socially oriented buyer would be the nightmare scenario for Mosaic. The location could be lost by 2031 at the latest. That’s when the lease expires.

In addition to a carpentry shop and a shipping center, there is also a vocational training area. Lots young people with disabilities start their professional life at mosaic, many stay here and find a job afterwards.
