26th bankruptcy in a row: Pistons set NBA negative record

The horror series continues shortly before Christmas: The Detroit Pistons lost again and thus set the shameful NBA negative record. The team from Michigan lost 115:126 to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night – it was the Pistons’ 26th defeat in a row.

Only the Cleveland Cavaliers (2010/11) and the Philadelphia 76ers (2013/14) had an equally bad negative series in NBA history. Detroit, which won the NBA title in 1989, 1990 and 2004, has not won since Oct. 28.

“Losing is terrible in this league,” said Pistons head coach Monty Williams, adding, “I’m proud of the way they keep fighting every night. Our guys don’t want to be part of a losing streak, whatever. But every day come back and try to win a game with concentration and drive.”

On Wednesday, Detroit will face the Nets again in an attempt to avert their negative record. The longest losing streak ever is now not far away: The Philadelphia 76ers once suffered a total of 28 bankruptcies in a row at the end of the 2014/15 season and at the beginning of the 2015/16 season.
