The local police Bredene/De Haan and the fire brigade received a disturbing report around 7.20 pm. Passers-by reported that a fire had started on a short-mown lawn on the corner of Zuid-Oostwijk and Battery Street. Emergency services were quickly on the scene and quickly brought the fire under control. About 2,500 square meters of grass burned down completely.
