At least 2,500 people were evacuated from their homes on Saturday due to a forest fire on the Canary Island of La Palma. The fire had started in the morning near the municipality of Puntagorda, in the northwest of the island. Due to the great drought and strong winds, the flames spread quickly, Mayor Vicente Rodríguez said on public broadcaster RTVE.
