In search of a new left-back, Bayer Leverkusen apparently found what they were looking for in Portugal.
As the sports newspaper “A Bola” reports, Alejandro Grimaldo is moving from Benfica to the Bundesliga on a free transfer this summer.
Accordingly, the 27-year-old Spaniard has already completed parts of the medical check and will sign a contract with Bayer until June 30, 2027.
Grimaldo has 15 assists in Portugal’s league and Champions League so far this season, making him Benfica’s leading assist provider.
Benfica coach Roger Schmidt and President Rui Costa have been trying in vain for months to extend the regular player’s contract, whose contract expires in the summer and whose market value is estimated at around 25 million euros.
Most recently, Grimaldo had been associated with numerous clubs in Spain or England. But now he is apparently drawn to Germany.
