2,400 retired teachers want extra work: “Old hands for tutoring or guiding new teachers”

Can flexi-jobs in education be (partly) the solution to the major teacher shortage? From April 1, flexi-jobs are normally also allowed within the school walls. And the candidates are there: “Our database contains 2,400 people over the age of sixty with an educational background who still want to make themselves useful,” says Nicolas Moerman of Nestor employment agency. Marc Van Staeyen (59) is one of them and tells HLN why he would like to do this. The educational umbrella organizations also answer honestly whether or not they see this as a solution.
