2,400 people from Drenthe want to participate in citizen consultations about housing plans

Nearly 2,400 people from Drenthe want to think and discuss future housing plans with the province. Ultimately, 150 people will be chosen from this group to form a citizens’ council, the province of Drenthe said.

The 150 chosen ones will be selected by lottery. More than 6,400 people also completed a questionnaire about living in the province, which is more than the province had expected in advance.

“We counted on approximately three thousand completed questionnaires and hoped for a thousand registrations, but that has been far exceeded and that says a lot about the involvement of our residents in the theme of living in Drenthe,” says Fenneke Mensen-Maat, PvdA State member and chairman of the Working group on Connecting Management.

Drenthe residents are generally positive about their living environment. The first, preliminary results give an average of 8.1. “That is of course a wonderful figure, which we would like to maintain for the future. What most people find most important is that there is space and greenery around their home,” says Mensen-Maat.

The citizens’ council will delve deeper into the theme of housing in the coming months. Before the summer, the Drenthe Parliament will receive the advisory report from the citizens’ council.
