The 23-year-old driver of the car, a vintage BMW, left the road, rammed a mailbox of a house and crashed into a utility pole on the passenger side. The young man suffered minor injuries in the accident, but his passenger was pulled unconscious from the wreckage by emergency services.
The 24-year-old woman was taken to AZ Delta in Rumbeke with life-threatening injuries.
Due to the accident, the Ieperseweg was closed for several hours so that the car could be towed and the fire brigade could clear the road surface. Grid operator Fluvius also arrived on site to replace the broken electricity pole.
