23-year-old driver who deliberately hit car in Deurne reports to police: victims out of danger | Deurne

UPDATEA serious accident happened on the Bisschoppenhoflaan in Deurne during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. Near Jan Welterslaan, a vehicle drove head-on into a traffic light pole. It was a case of serious road rage in which a 23-year-old driver deliberately drove into the victims’ car. The perpetrator reported to the police during Wednesday. The victims are now out of danger.

“Around 3 o’clock there was a report of a serious traffic accident on Bisschoppenhoflaan,” police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns said this morning. “We suspect that there was serious road rage. A vehicle had crashed into a traffic light pole and at least one person was immediately trapped. Bystanders had already helped the victims out of the car. They received medical help from the ambulance staff and a mosquito. The two occupants, aged 27 and 31, were taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.”

A witness told police that the occupants of the crashed vehicle had been arguing with another car. The driver of the latter vehicle then deliberately drove into the victims’ car, resulting in the serious crash. The story is currently being further investigated.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the vehicle drove off without looking back after the crash and therefore committed a hit-and-run accident. “The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident and are tracking down the other vehicle involved,” it said this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the public prosecutor’s office reports that the young driver of the fleeing car has reported to the police. “His arrest was ordered by the public prosecutor’s office for questioning with the assistance of a lawyer and his car was seized,” said spokesperson Kristof Aerts. “He has not yet made a statement and the victims could not yet be interviewed. The investigation is still ongoing.”
