23 neglected cats removed from filthy home in the Netherlands | Abroad

The Dutch National Animal Protection Inspectorate (LID) and the Dutch police have removed all 23 cats from a single-family home in the municipality of Cranendonck, who lived in deplorable conditions. According to the inspection, the cats were there in their own feces.

There was a pungent ammonia smell in the house in Brabant in the Netherlands. According to the inspection, the 23 Maine Coons had a dirty, matted coat and inflamed gums. The animals are housed in a secret shelter where they are cared for at the owner’s expense.

The costs of transport and accommodation are also recovered from the woman, the inspectorate announced. According to a spokesman for the LID, these costs can run into the thousands of euros.

Only when the animals are completely healthy again, all costs have been paid and the house has been declared clean and safe after inspection by the inspection, could the cats return. Whether that actually happens depends on a decision by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) following a request from the owner. If one of these conditions is not met, the shelter will look for new accommodation for the animals.
