2:3! BR Volleys receive a setback in Frankfurt

The BR Volleys received an unexpected setback in the championship semifinals.

Coach Cedric Enard’s team lost 2:3 (22:25, 22:25, 28:26, 25:14, 9:15) at United Volleys Frankfurt after a mixed performance. The Hessians equalized in the best-of-five series in the semi-finals to 1: 1 after wins. Both teams will meet again for the third game in Berlin on Wednesday.

The BR Volleys had to replace Ruben Schott at short notice. The outside attacker was plagued by thigh problems. In his position, Samuel Tuia came into play. In the first movement, the Berliners were shown off for a long time by their passionate and carefree opponent. With up to eight points (19:11), the Hessians pulled away before things got a little tight for them again at the end when Tuia served.

Towards the end of the second round, the guests took the lead again, 22:21, but were unable to capitalize on that either. Coach Enard tried to change the balance of power with numerous player changes. In the third set, the Berliners initially fended off three of their opponent’s match balls before substitute Marek Sotola initiated the turnaround to win the set with the point to 27:26. The Frankfurters then temporarily lost control of the game. The opponent set the tone.

The tiebreak finally had to decide. There, the Hessians quickly pulled away to 7:3 and then confidently headed for victory with an outstanding Daniel Malescha on the diagonal position.
