This festive table is a reminder of the people who are missing.
With a solidarity campaign yesterday, the Jewish community in Berlin remembered the hostages held by the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip. 220 chairs remained empty at the Shabbat table in front of the community center on Fasanenstrasse. The names of those abducted were also read out.
The chairman of the Jewish Community of Berlin, Gideon Joffe, said the families of the hostages kidnapped by Hamas were experiencing a nightmare that was hard to imagine. It is therefore important to send a sign of solidarity.
Senator for Culture Joe Chialo (53, CDU) called for the abductees to be released immediately. Both also thanked the Berlin police, who work day and night to protect Jewish life.
