21 months youth detention demanded for stabbing Dani (14) to death after a fight about a clothing swap

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has demanded 21 months of juvenile detention and treatment against the 17-year-old HD from Purmerend. That became clear during the closed trial that is being heard today. The boy is said to have stabbed 14-year-old Dani from Westwoud to death because of an argument over a clothing exchange.

On October 26 of last year, the two meet on the square next to Oscar Romero secondary school in Hoorn. Dani is stabbed and dies a few days later. Shortly after the stabbing, the then 16-year-old HD was arrested.

According to the Oprosecutor he acted on a whim. Then there is no question of murder, but of manslaughter. “The suspect brought a knife and deliberately stabbed the victim with this knife, who died from it,” a spokesperson told NH.

Knife of 1.30 euros

Because the suspect is still a minor, the trial is being held behind closed doors. The Public Prosecution Service takes the case seriously. Also because of the increasing possession of guns among young people. “The Public Prosecution Service is very concerned about this. This case involved a knife worth 1.30 euros that was used as a deadly weapon in an argument about exchanged clothing.”

The requirement of 21 months of juvenile detention (two years is the maximum, ed.) and an unconditional PIJ measure (intensive juvenile treatment) is also due to the shock caused by Dani’s death.

Feeling of unrest and insecurity

“The impact is huge: a 14-year-old boy is dead, his relatives have to continue without him. The incident obviously also has an impact on the suspect and his family. In addition, the stabbing incident has caused unrest and feelings of insecurity in Hoorn. the Public Prosecutor strongly resents the suspect.”
