Taylor Swift is said to have earned a total of around 1.82 billion US dollars (equivalent to around 1.66 billion euros) this year by December 7, 2023. The sources of income: music sales and royalties, concert tickets, gig merchandise and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie ticket sales.
At the same time, it should be noted that some projects were not included in the calculation, which comes from “Billboard”, because the profits from synchronization orders and sponsorship are unknown.
More profit than “Barbie”
According to “Billboard”, with this profit, Taylor Swift managed to make more profit than, for example, the movie “Barbie”, which grossed around 1.4 billion US dollars worldwide in 2023. The income from her “The Eras” tour this year makes up the largest part of Swift’s income. This brought in a whopping $900 million. “Billboard” estimates this based on the number of tickets sold multiplied by the average price for a ticket. Concert merchandise sales are expected to total $132 million. According to this, the “Person of the Year” winner is said to have made around two million US dollars per show through clothing, music and other merch goodies that were available to buy at the shows.
When it comes to streams, Taylor Swift is also in pole position in terms of on-demand audio streams, album and track sales. Here the artist managed to earn an estimated $536 million through streaming royalties, purchases – tracks, digital albums, CDs, LPs and cassettes – and radio productions. These accounted for about 86 percent, or $461 million, of her recording revenue, as most of this money was collected by her label Republic Records and the owner of her Big Machine Music Group catalog, Shamrock Capital.
Tour film continues to make money
Additionally, according to Box Office Mojo, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” has an international box office gross of $250 million, although production expenses are not taken into account. Additionally, the film is now available to rent via streaming, although Swift still retains the rights to license it to a streaming service, which will make her even more money.
Since no financial information for the 34-year-old is publicly available, Billboard calculated music royalties using data from Luminate and concert ticket sales using publicly available information. Merchandise revenue from their concerts was also estimated using reporting. However, some 2023 projects such as synchronization revenue, sponsorships and other merchandise sales were not taken into account in this calculation, as the amounts of such collaborations are not freely accessible. Accordingly, it can be assumed that the 2023 final total will be over 1.82 billion US dollars.
In early December, Swift was named “Person of the Year” by “Time” magazine. In an interview with the medium, the singer spoke about other achievements and experiences in her career.
