The volunteers formed a human chain to move the items to their temporary new home in the church. Some pieces have been behind closed doors for 400 years and have never left the abbey before. Flemish Minister of Immovable Heritage Matthias Diependaele packed the very last object. Mayor of Bruges Dirk De fauw was also present to carry in the last object.
“Today, together with a lot of helping hands, we put a careful plan into action to move the valuable household goods, art objects and furniture from the Sint-Godelieve Abbey. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the volunteers who committed themselves to this important event. This indispensable help ensured a smooth relocation process that contributes to the preservation of the rich history of Sint-Godelieve Abbey,” says De fauw.
