200 kilos of waste fished from the Leie from canoes

In Menen, too, students took to the water in a canoe and unfortunately: there is still a lot of waste floating around there. Hans Marly, Dokano: “In any case, our aim is to raise awareness of the litter problem. We have noticed that the problem is very large in Ghent and we wanted to see if it is also the same upstream in the Leie. And we actually have to establish that that is exactly the same problem.”

Today young people in Menen removed 200 kilos of dirt from the water: carpets, chairs, plates, glasses, bottles and much more.

Students Noémie and Aerith: “I didn’t expect that; there is really a lot of waste in the Leie and along the side. So that means that people still throw away a lot on the street.”
