“200 interventions in 24 hours”: Ostend police after eventful heat day
The particularly warm weather caused a large crowd at the police on Tuesday, both during the day and at night. For example, the patrols carried out 208 interventions of all kinds in 24 hours. There were mainly missing bathers, nighttime noise, public drunkenness and skirmishes.
“Prepared for anything”
The focus was between 1 p.m. and 1 p.m., with nearly 150 interventions. The drowning procedure was started four times in the early evening. They all had a happy ending. “The tourist crowds and extreme heat created challenging working conditions. Get started: running from one emergency call to another in a leaden heat and heavy police equipment.”
“But we are prepared for all possible scenarios, whether it is the end of winter or the height of summer”, acting chief constable Hannelore Hochepied looks back. “All this strengthens our confidence in view of the upcoming busy holiday weeks. The outflow of tourists went smoothly, the busyness of the shifts was on other fronts.”
