Fight against relegation
There were two layoffs in LaLiga on Monday. Real Valladolid announced the departure of Pacheta at midday after Sunday’s 6-0 loss at Real Madrid, and a short time later Espanyol informed Barcelona that Diego Martínez had split. The 55-year-old Pacheta had made it into the Spanish top flight with Valladolid and coached the team in 75 games, in which he averaged 1.61 points. After matchday 27, the club is in 16th place in the table.
Valladolid said they were “aware of the importance of the coach and the role he has played since his arrival” but were “committed to the goal of remaining in the first division at the end of the current season chose a different path”. One place behind the Blanquivioleta is Espanyol Barcelona, who sacked Martínez after losing four in a row and averaging 1.16 points in 31 games. Here, too, the association referred to the sporting situation as the reason.
